WISH FULFILLED
NEW RECTOR ARRIVES CANTERBURY UNIVERSITY , COLLEGE P.A. AUCKLAND, Oct. 15. Appointed rector of Canterbury University College, Christchurch, Dr H. R, Hulme arrived in the Ruahine today from Britain. “ I have always been interested in New Zealand and for long have wanted to come here,” he said. “It seemed a progressive country, going ahead with a variety of interesting social projects.” Dr Hulme and his wife were greeted by their 10-year-old daughter Juliet, who has been in the Bay of Islands for six months. Tall, friendly and humorous, the Lancashire doctor took the mathematical tripos at Cambridge University. During the war he did scientific work connected with the magnetic mine and later was director of naval operational research. He said he was pleased to be returning to university work.
