QUIET DEMONSTRATION
SCREENING OF “ IRON CURTAIN ” P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 15. Carrying banners bearing slogans: “ Demand the Government ban this film and all war propaganda,” '“The Iron Curtain’ is a gentleman’s agreement of war,” and “ UNO against war propaganda,’’ members of the Canterbury District Committee of the Communist Party staged a quiet demonstration outside the Crystal Palace Theatre when the American film “ Iron Curtain ” began its Christchurch screening this evening. A small crowd gathered outside the theatre shortly after 7.30, when three members of the party, headed by the secretary, Mr J. Locke, appeared with the banners. Other members of the party distributed pamphlets to those entering the theatre and to the people ouside. A senior sergeant and a sergeant of police stood watching. There were ironic comments from the crowd, but no incidents.
