“SALT IT DOWN”
FIRST PRIZE IN LOTTERY CHRISTCHURCH SYNDICATE’S LUCK p.A CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 15. The first prize of £ 10,000 in an overseas lottery has been won by a Christchurch syndicate, the principal of which is Mr T. A. Gordon, drummajor of the City of Christchurch Pipe Band, who works in an engineering firm Mr Gordon and two friends (whom he refused to name) have been buying tickets for three years, and estimate that they have taken about 160. They have never before won prizes, but twice they were granted free . tickets for holding numbers closely corresponding to the prizewinner’s. “Salt it down—or sleep on it was Mr Gordon’s reply to an inquiry about his plans for his share of the £lO 000. He added that all three men were married fairly recently and would share the prize equally.
