SOCIALISTS ON HORSEBACK

Sir,—One of the greatest truths spoken by a Labour member was that of Mr Hackett when he said that the mam object of certain legislation was to enable the Labour Party to keep In power. The world over we see how the people are swayed by demagogues despite the supposed greater educational standards existing to-day. Demagogues are dangerous, for they work cunningly so as to hide their real Intentions. When fears were expressed that the Labour Government meant to bring in a policy of Socialism, the late Mr Savage said, “ Don’t be afraid. We will do nothing to harm you," or words to that effect. At that time Labour members objected to being called Socialists. Now they openly admit that they are. What will be the next stage in their evolution to be openly admitted? In British countries in the past the public were told openly the full intention behind any enactment put before Parliament by the Government in power. Now. unfortunately, one has to look with ereat suspicion on every Bill before the House to find what i$ the real intention of the Government in it. The people of Germany did not know where they were being led by Hitler and his henchmen, but they know now. Both the Socialists and Communists object to Fascism, but is there not a close relation betwen the three “isms,” for they all bring about regulation of the individual? To gain power, the Labour Party in this country created in the minds of all employees a spirit!of discontent with their conditions in this fine country. So well did they succeed in creating discord between employer and employee that I venture to say individual production, which the Government appeals for to-day, has been reduced. Further, there is a great deterioration in the individual’s moral obligation to his or her fellows. This is the greatest loss any country can sustain. It is acknowledged that the responsibility for this loss can be placed on the Labour Government's methods of gaining votes. These methods can be described as degrading, and the results are not yet fully realised in their evil consequences. The slavery, which it Is becoming evident all unionists are being subjected to by the rabid leaders of many unions, is only a sign of what awaits the people of this country If they do not arise and assert their desire for liberty.—l am, etc., Fifius Popuh.
