WAR REGULATIONS
REGISTRATION OF ALIENS EMBODIMENT IN LEGISLATIVE FORM P.A. WELLINGTON, Aug. 17. War-time regulations dealing with aliens are embodied in legislative form by the Aliens Bill, which was introduced and read a first time in the, House of Representatives t6-night. The’ Minister in Charge of Police, Mr Fraser, said the Bill was really a counterpart of the British Nationality and New Zealand Citizenship Bill, now under discussion in the House. . The Bill dealt exclusively with the status and registration of aliens, and a good many of the war regulations dealing with their registration, change of name, and change of residence were embodied in it. Provision for the deportation of aliens who turned out to be criminals was also contained in the legislation. Real and personal property may be held by an alien, a British-protected person or an Irish citizen in the same manner as a British subject QUt this shall not operate so as to qualify an alien for any office or any parliamentary, municipal or other franchise.
