\ Howe Strongly Supported For Two Cups
As the result of a spectacular Australian-wide move, in which he was supported for £150,000, Howe has become one of the topliners for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups double. One of the most discussed gallopers in Australia to-day, the New Zealander has been backed for £40,000 in the Caulfield Cup. Howe was also backed for £50,000 in the Melbourne Cup and £60,000 for the double. The Evening Post’s Australian correspondent states that the big commission was planned by a leading Australian betting figure and was launched simultaneously in all centres of the Commonwealth.
Sylis, winner of the Auckland Cup, also advanced sharply in the order of 1 popularity. With 7.12 he is favourably handicapped in the longer race.
