Distinction Is Genuine Racehorse
The Foxbridge four-year-old Distinction is racing very consistently and his three most recent races have produced a win and two seconds. At the Christchurch Hunt meeting he was second to Aganev in a division of the Brabazon Handicap, being beaten by a neck. On the first day of the National meeting he was second to Julius Caesar in the Winter Cup and he' improved on this form on Saturday, when he won the August Handicap from Wonder Boy and Da Vinci. A genuine and game racehorse, Distinction promises to play an important part in some of the big handicaps this season. Jottings «
Nomination for the Otago Hunt Club’s meeting are due on Tuesday. Boolamskee’s record in the Grand National Hurdles is now a win and two seconds.
Night Owl is racing very consistently, and in his present form the Nightly gelding is likely to win at any tiine. Below his Best
High Morale, who had been sore during the week, raced well below his best in the Beaufort Steeplechase and was pullerd up three furlongs from home. Never a Possibility
The pace set byTremello in the Grand National Hurdles made Corineus feel his weight and the top-weight was never a possibility. Looks Well
Detract ran a solid race for third in (he first division of the Woolston Handicap gftd the Defaulter four-year-old may improve on that form before long. F. A. Roberts has him looking well. Drifted Right Out Bridgehead drifted out of the picture a long way from home in the Spreydon Hurdles after making the pace with Specialist, the two leaders being at least 10 lengths clear about a mile from home. The effort to keep with the speedy Specialist was too much for Bridgehead and had he not been asked to do so he would probably have lasted longer than he did. Good Performance
Baffling shows promise of developing into a very useful performer over hurdles and it will occasion no surprise if he has an early win on the southern circuit. The Baffles gelding ran third in the Duke of Gloucester Cup at the C.J.C, National meeting last season and he won the TBuatapere Hack Handicap at the Southland meeting in April, but he looks like having more success as a hurdler than he did on the flat. His third to Vanity King and Roman Duke in the Spreydon Hurdles was a good performance. He was got from Taupiri, by Hunting Song from Flying Foam. Popular Win
The Dunedin owner, Mr H. Wilson, does not win a race out of his turn, and consequently Vanity King’s win in the Spreydon Hurdles was a popular one, even though he was not among the favourites. Trained at Gore by J. R. Cochrane, Vanity King, ran fourth in the Otago Hurdles in June and at the same meeting he was fourth again in the June Hurdles, those finishing in front of him being Young Bob, Sphere, and Siegform. At the Waimate Hunt meeting he was made each way favourite for the Studholme Hack and Hunters’ Hurdle Handicap, but was beaten into' third place by Bridgehead and Hart Royal. Vanity King's win on Saturday was a decisive one and, only a five-year-old, he should have a successful career over jumps.
