Exportation of Timber Disapproved

After discussing the question of the shortage of building materials for houses a motion was carried at the monthly meeting of the Oamaru R.S.A. on Tuesday night that representations be made to' ensure that sufficient quantities, of building materials and timber suitable for housing construction were distributed throughout the country where possible before shipments were made overseas. The discussion arose out of a recent report that the Government was experimenting with a boatload of pinus insignis by sending it to South Africa. One member said that pinus insignis might be used as an experiment but other varieties of wood might follow if the experiment proved successful. It was decided to purchase three bonds autographed by the Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg. which were offered to the association by the Court Pride of Oamaru Lodge.
