FIRST LAMBS FORWARD P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 11. The store sheep entry at Addington today was 1171, comprising 478 hoggets and 693 ewes, also a handful of ewes and lambs, the first of the season. The top price of 49s 6d was paid for an excellent truck lot of Romney ewe hoggets. Another good lot of similar breeding made 46s 6d. A small lot of wether hoggets sold at 455, and another, shorn in March, made 40s 6d. Best hoggets made 44s 6d to 49s 6d; good, 38s to 435; culls and inferior, down to 255. There was little of quality in the ewe offering, but the sale was sound at prices a shade firmer. A line of four-year halfbreds showing heavy in lamb to South, downs made 54s 6d, and two other lots of halfbreds' made 48s 6d and 445. The best of the offering made 44s to 54s 6d: medium. 32s to 395; and others down to 265. Small lots of ewes and lambs made 17s to 27s 6d, all counted. The spring lamb yarding totalled 13, and prices were easier than last week, but the sale nevertheless was sound. Prices ranged from 43s Id to 59s 7d. The fat hogget entry was 487. Prices were from par to a shade firmer than last week. The porker yarding was the smallest for several weeks, and prices firmed by 3s to 4s. Choppers were forward in smaller numbers, but prices showed little change. The bacon entry was much larger and prices were 5s to 10s easier than last week. Values; Light porkers made £3 12s 6d to £3 19s 6d; medium. £4 4s Cd to £4 14s 6d; heavy, £4 19s 6d to £5 19s 6d.
