RANGE OF PRICES

The following quotations per 1001 b for beef and per lb for mutton and pigs are supplied, with a comparison with last week’s prices, by our special representative at yesterday’s Burnside stock sale:—

The offering of baconers and porkers was fewer in numbers than .a week ago, and prices appeared to be about the same There is still a good inquiry for dairy cattle as milk suppliers are inquiring for good cows close to profit. Among' the top sales of cattle was a consignment from Mosgiel on account of Mr A. S. Murray, which realised from £35 to £4O. Two consignments of wethers, one from Otaia, on account of Mr J. J u Wylie, made the top price of 101 s 6d, while another consignment from Forest Hills, on account of Henderson Bros., made from 91s to 100 s. Fat Cattle The offering of fat cattle was well below trade requirements, bidding being keen throughout, and prices well above those for the past few weeks. With the exception of a few consignments, the yarding was mostly of fair quality, with a number of pens of average sorts. ‘ Quotations: Extra prime heavy bullocks.j to £4O; prime heavy, £35 to £37 12s 6d;< prime, £3l 12s 6d to £34 12s 6d; medium, £24 17s 6d to £26 17s 6d; light, from £l9 17s 6d; prime heavy cows, to £24 17s 6d; prime, £l6 17s 6d to £l9 2s 6d; medium, £l2 12s 6d to £l3 17s 6d; light, from £lO 12s 6d; prime heifers, £2l 17s 6d to £23 12s 6d; medium, £ls 7s 6d to £l6 12s 6d; light, from £ll 17s 6d. Fat Sheep In the fat sheep section the offering was also well below' the number required, and prices again were well above anything ruling for some w.-eks. Judgment did not count with regard* to values, and it appeared to be a case of bidding to any price to secure a few sheep to supply butchers’ requirements. The offering on the whole was fairly good quality, but all classes were keenly competed for. Quotations:—Prime heavy wethers, to £5 Is 6d; prime, £4 2s to £4 10s; medium, 68s to 755; light, from 525.
