Competitions Closed It was decided at the weekly meeting of the North Otago Rugby Union on Monday night to close the Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade Competitions. Mr J. Macmillan reported that in all these competitions the leaders were in an unassailable position, Waitaki A leading in the Third Grade with. 24 points, followed by Old Bovs with 16 points. In the Fourth Grade Waitaki A had 17 points, Waitaki C 14, and Athletic 13. In the Fifth Grade St. Kevin’s had 12 points and Waitaki A 8. It was decided to complete the Sixth Grade Competition on Saturday and also to play the last game in the Junior Competition.

Mr D. S. Loder was in the chair and there were also present Messrs E. H. Strachan, J. Macmillan, H. Cross, A. R. Low, J. Benson, R. L. Brown, W. Berry, J. Firman, W. Budd and A. T. Francis. It was decided to commence the Junior Ralph Cup Knock-out Competition on Saturday week. Mr Firman, In his report on last Saturday's Town v. Country matches at Kurow, said the games were a “ boost ” to subunion football, and tne gate takings were a record.

Waitaki was granted permission to play Otago Boys’ High School third fifteen at Milner Park at 10 a.m. to-day. It was decided to purchase 40 books on goal-kicking, written by G. J. Ross (New Plymouth). Mr Macmillan suggested that these books could be sent to country schools. Arrangements were made for the return Ashburton v. North Otago match at Oamaru on Saturday. Mr Macmillan was appointed manager. Mr Firman reported that the Waitaki Sub-union favoured August 28 for the Clark Shield match, and had also requested that a game be arranged between the runners-up of the Town and Country major competitions. * Draw for Saturday
