EXTORTION ATTEMPT
MARRIED WOMAN PLEADS GUILTY P.A. . PALMERSTON N., Aug. 4. Attempts by a young married woman to obtain £340 from a Feilding resident, first by false pretences and then by blackmail threats, were described in the Magistrate’s Court when Margaret Stjiart Harvey, a dental nurse, admitted her guilt. The charges were that on July 26, with intent to extort £340 from William Edward Lutze, she caused his wife to receive a letter containing an accusation that Lutze was guilty of rape or indecent assault and secondly, with intent to defraud, she attempted to obtain £340 from Lutze by falsely representing that she needed the money to purchase a business in Wellington and owned furniture valued at £550.
In evidence, Lutze said the letter came to hand after he had taken the accused from Feilding to Palmerston North in his car because no suitable bus was running.
