WELLINGTON CLUB’S SUCCESS

ST. ANDREW’S TROPHY RACE Three well-matched teams fought out a close finish in the annual St. Andrews Trophy race between the Presbyterian Harrier Clubs of New Zealand, held at Hancock Park yesterday. The strong Wellington team, which scored 2d points (R. Read 1, G. Kirk 7, R. Parks 8, E. Smith 9), narrowly headed off Christchurch, with 28, and Dunedin, with dO. Teams representing the Auckland, Timaru and Temuka Clubs also participated. The first runner to breast the tape was R Read, who has been Wellington junior champion for the past three years. Read was strongly pressed throughout by L. R. Murcott, of Dunedin, who finished second after running a fine race against his moro experienced opponent. Other prominent Dunedin contestants were F. G. Weedon, who ran well into fifth place after overcoming an attack of cramp, and E. B. Brown, who came sixth. Individual placings were:—R. Read (Wellington) 1, L. R. Murcott (Dunedin) 2, A.
