Special to the Daily Times ALEXANDRA, June 6. Alexandra was particularly fortunate to defeat Clyde by 8 points to 3 in a Rugby match played yesterday. Within the first 10 minutes the greatly improved Clyde team were on the attack, and maintained very aggressive tactics until the final whistle. Clyde will be, a team to be reckoned with before the end of the season. Although most of the Clyde forwards were relatively light, they won the majority of the scrums, the Alaxandra forwards being very weak in this department. No score was recorded in the first spell, but towards the end a penalty saved Alexandra from an awkward position. Clyde renewed the attack in the second half with the Mulveena brothers and Strahl playing excellently. Eventually Barrow penetrated the Alexandra line to score, but an easy kick failed. Alexandra rallied shortly afterwards, when a forward rush led by Hamilton, resulted in a try, which was converted by lies. Alexandra’s remaining points were secured from a penalty goal taken by lies. As full-back for Clyde, Campbell played a good game and O’Brien at first fiveeighth showed up well. Hamilton, Lee, Wilson and lies were the best of the Alexandra players. During the match Pierce, Washington and Kelliher retired from the field with injuries.
