LEADING AMATEURS REACH • SEMI-FINALS P.A. HAMILTON, June 6. Four of the leading amateur golfers in the country have reached the semi-finals of the North Island championships which began at St. Andrews links on Saturday. R. H. Glaaing, New Zealand open champion, will meet the national amateur champion, B. M. Silk, while the other semi-final will be played between A. R. Kitto and J. Jeffery. These matches will be over 36 holes, with the final to be played on Tuesday, also a 36-hole match. Two medal rounds were played on Saturday and the 16 players who returned the best cards qualified for the North Island Championship. With a 72 in the morning and a brilliant 70, which equalled the course record established by E. J. Moss in 1937, R. H. Glading finished six strokes ahead of the next best net score of 143 returned by the Wanganui amateur, A. R. Kitto. The 16 qualifiers were R. H. Glading 72—70—142, A. R. Kitto 74—74—148, B. M. Young, 2 and 1; Kitto beat Reilly, 6 and 5; J. Jeffrey beat Revell at the nineteenth. There was almost a sensation in the opening round of the championships when R. H. Glading was taken to the nineteenth hole by a\youthful Hamilton player, J. Q. Casey. Both played excellent golf, Glading going round in 74 and Casey in 75.
