RAGGED DISPLAY

ZINGARI’S DECISIVE WIN

Little constructive - footballl was seen at Tahuna Park where Zingari-Richmond defeated Alhambra by 26 points to 5 in a predominantly forward game. Alhambra seemed unable to develop any sting in attack, although J. Longworth, playing behind the scrum in place of D. Leckie, showed up well. The colours opened play brightly when in the first five minutes tries were scored by the left wing, A. Phillips, and a forward W. Brown, while both sets of backs handled the ball easily. In the loose the Alhambra forwards had the best of play, led by R, Matheson and E. Michie, but their opponents hooked the ball more consistently. R. Cody kicked two penalty goals for Zingari, and after a young Alhambra forward, J. C. Bradshaw, dived over the line to score, Michie converted to make the half-time score 12—5. Both teams would have played better had they been fitter, but the Zingari backs played a much more vigorous game than their opposite numbers. Tries were scored in the second spell by F. Peat (centre), N. Wilson (forward), and two by S. Dowland (forward), one being converted by R. Orr. Play degenerated until little cohesive movement was attempted, and the back lines Were frequently .overrun by loose forwards. For Zingari, D. Bennett and L. Watson played well in the backs, while N. Wilson, W. Brown and S. Dowland were the best of the forwards. Mr H. Brown was the referee.
