LARGE ENTRIES
CENTENNIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS PIPING AND DANCING More than 1100 entries, including a number from the. North Island, have been received for the Otago Piping and Dancing Association’s centennial year championships which will begin ‘in the Concert Chamber on Saturday. This information was given to the Daily Times by the association’s secretary, Mr H. J. Horrell, who said the gathering would be the biggest of its kind in Australia and New Zealand. A much larger programme, embracing seven days instead of the usual three, has been arranged. In addition to the Otago championships, several South Island and New Zealand championship events will be held. About 300 competitors will be taking part. The judges of the events are:—Piping, Mr J. J. McFarlane (Blenheim); dancing, Mrs L. Galvin (Wellington) and Miss Betty McCarnochan (Christchurch) . * ' Mr Maclepd Finlayson, chief of the Waipu Caledonian Society, will arrive in Dunedin to-morrow to attend the championships. Other prominent Scottish personalities are also travelling to Dunedin for the championships.
