DUNEDIN JOCKEY CLUB
NEW CARETAKER APPOINTED A special meeting of the committee of the Dunedin Jockey Club, held on Monday, was attended by Messrs L. C. Hazlett (chairman), C. N. Draper, K. Clark, A. P. Greenfield, R. C. B. Gi%nslade,W. Garrett, J. A. Gow, B. S. Irwin, D. M. Reid, R. W. Wilson, and Dr E. R. Harty. Mr F. T. Ruthven, of Wingatui, was appointed to the position of caretaker at the club’s racecourse property at Wingatui. He was selected from 79 applicants. He will commence his duties on July 1, 1948, on the retirement of the present caretaker, Mr G. Ruthven,-his uncle. He has been an employee of the club since 1937. except for a period of three years while in the army. „ , The acceptance of Mr F. J. Fay s application for the right to conduct the licensed booth at Wingatui was confirmed. It was decided to contribute the sum of £2OO to the United Nations Appeal for Children. A motion of sympathy with Mr W. H. Elliott a .member of the committee, was passed in the death of his sister, Mrs A. B. Armour.
