DEATH IN CANADA
COLONEL J. L. RALSTON FORMER DEFENCE AND FINANCE MINISTER Rec. 8 p.m. OTTAWA, May 23. The death has occurred of Colonel J. L. Ralston, a former Canadian Minister of National Defence. He was 66. Colonel Ralston was a partner in a Montreal legal firm. He was created a King’s Counsel in 1914. He served overseas with the Canadian forces in the First World War and gained the D.S.O. and bar to it. He was Minister of National Defence in the Canadian Cabinet from 1926 to 1930, and again from 19‘40 to 1944, and Minister of Finance in 1939.
