PARIS DESIGNS
“ New Look ” Models for Sydney The first representative collection of original fashions designed by Christian Dior to be shown outside Paris will be flown to Sydney in time for the opening of the spring parades at David Jones, Ltd., says the London fashion writer of a Sydney newspaper. Miss Alice Condon, the firm’s fashion co-ordinator in Sydney, and Miss Gwen Constance, the London fashion buyer, who recently returned from Australia, have just arrived from Paris. They negotiated with Dior, and with him selected the models which will be shown in Sydney. Dior is the much-talked-about originator of the new look; he is still creating the new look, with variations. -The group for Australia will comprise 50 originals from his 1948 spring collection, together with hats and accessories. From this collection Sydney women will be able to decide for themselves whether or not they will adopt wholeheartedly the styles designed by the man who successfully achieved a revolution in women's dress. , . The Dior originals will be worn by Australian mannequins. Their figures will have to approximate the measurements of Dior's mannequins, some of whom have 20-inch waists.
