LORNEVILLE SALE

IMPROVED FAT SHEEP VALUES

P.A. INVERCARGILL, May 11. A further improvement of 3s a head was shown in the fat sheep section at the Lorneville s'ale to-day. Cattle did not sell particularly well, and last week’s prices were not improved upon. Dairy cows improved in value, and sundries are again making an appearance. There v’as a very short yarding in the fat sheep section, but the bulk was ol good quality. There was an equal proportion of ewes and wethers, and betterquality ewes were in keen demand, a further improvement of about 3s a head being shown on last week’s improved prices. Quotations: —Good-quality mediumweight wethers made 56s to 58s 6d; lighter weights, 50s to 545; small and unfinished, 43s to 465; good-quality ewes, 37s 6d to 40s; medium, 33s to 35s 6d; light and unfinished sorts, 25s to 30s. The fat cattle Cntry was mainly made up of bullocks, being of fair quality, but the sale was a little erratic, probably due to an over-supply. Better-quality cattle fully maintained last week’s values, but unfinished sorts were not keeniy sought after and lost about £1 a head. Quotations:—Heavy-weight bullocks made to £25 2s; good-quality medium-weight sorts, £2O to £22 10s: handy-weights, £l7 to £lB 10s; light-weights, £l4 10s to £ls 10s; good-quality cows, to £l6 17s 6d; medium, £l3 to £l4 10s; lighter weights, £ll to £l2; aged and unfinished, £6 10s to £8 10s; good-quality medium-weight heifers, £ls 10s to £l7; handy-weights, £l3 10s to £l4 10s; small and light, £lO to £ll 10s.
