DOMINION MARKETS
EFFECT OF NEW ECONOMY NEED FOR SPECIAL STUDY Rec. 8 p.m. LONDON, May 11. Some London quarters feel that there is need for a special committee to study the whole problem of the dominions’ relations with the new European economy, says the diplomatic correspondent of The Times. He, however, adds that fears that the conditions of Marshall Aid may threaten Imperial preferences may be presenting Australia and New Zealand with a problem more apparent than real. As long as Britain’s foreign trade is based on import permits and bulk buying, arrangements can still be made
to secure from the dominions their share of the British market. The problem is that of satisfying the shortterm needs of Australia and New Zealand for British markets while the foundations are being laid of a strong European economy which eventually will afford a better market for the output of those dominions than hitherto, existed.
