MAREO RELEASED
PROBATIONARY LICENCE TWELVE YEARS IN PRISON P.A. i„u<J.K.LAJND, May 11. _ naving served a term of approximately 12 years in the Auckland prison after his conviction in the Supreme Court, Eric Mareo, aged 57, a musician, was released this afternoon on probationary licence. Found guilty of murdering his wife, Thelma Clarice Mareo, by poisoning her with veronal, Mareo was sentenced to death in 1935. but this was commuted to life imprisonment by the Executive Council. His release was granted on the recommendation of the Prisons Board. He was driven away from prison in a motor car.
