ELECTRIC POWER
EXTENSION TO OTAKOU POLES NOW BEING ERECTED The laying of a submarine electric cable from Port Chalmers to Portobello some months ago .was the first step in supplying electricity to the Otakou area. The scheme was not advanced beyond that stage at the time owing to a lack of materials, but these have now come to hand, and the work of erecting poles to carry the line as far as the Maori Kaik began on Thursday last.
The City Electricity Department has been given authority to reticulate the area from Portobello to Taiaroa Head, but the service will be taken only to the Kaik in the meantime. In answer to an inquiry by the Otago Daily Times yesterday, the city electrical engineer, Mr G. T. Edgar, said that it would be about two months before electricity would be available to homes along the route.
