DRY CONDITIONS

Farming Operations Limited

Dry weather again this week, with dull, misty days, has created conditions which limit the autumn sowing of pastures. Green feed, which was sown late, is making poor growth. Wheat.—Very few lines are coming forward as the wheat harvest is nearly completed. Merchants are waiting advice from the Wheat Committee as to when they can expect wheat from Australia for feed requirements. Stocks in store are not sufficient to last very long. Merchants have been busy this week machine dressing and dry dusting seed wheat for winter sowing. Owing to the dry conditions, growers in some cases are finding it difficult to prepare their land for wheat sowing. Oats.—There are very few on offer and a very urgent inquiry still continues in the North Island. Lines on offer are readily taken up.

Chaff.—Because of the dry conditions, the prospects for winter feed are not good. There are very few lines to offer from growers. Seeds.—Markets are quiet, exporters not being keen to operate further until the prospects for exporting early sales have been clarified. Harvesting of some lines of Montgomery Red has begun, but it is too early to ascertain what the yields will be. There has been very little inquiry so far for cowgrass and Montgomery Red clover.
