PICKLED PELTS

The New Zealand Meat Producers' Board advises that the third sale for the season of pickled sheep and lamb pells was held in Wellington on April 14 before a full bench of buyers. Offerings reached a record of 207 lots, comprising 81,985 dozen sheep and 224,801 dozen lamb pells. Bidding was more spirited than usual, but prices of both sheep and lamb pelts declined by approximately 15 per cent. on those of the preceding sale. Compared with the first sale of the season, overall prices have now receded by approximately 33 1-3 per cent, for lamb and 20 per cent, for sheep pelts.
