STORE SHEEP IN. DEMAND The weekly Balclutha sale attracted an entry of 7200, 1200 being l'at sheep and 6000 store sheep. In the fat sheep section the yarding? was mainly ewes, with a few pens of wethers and lambs. Freezing buyers operated at full schedule rates, but wethers were hardly up to late rates. Quotations„„ , Fat wethers—Best 455, medium 38s Od to 40s 3d; heavy fat ewes, 28s Gd to 30s; best freezing weights, 2Gs 6d to 28s; medium, 23s 6cl to 25s 6d; fat lambs—heavy 38s 3d to 40s, average 33s to 365, shorn 2Gs 9d. Store sheep of all descriptions met an unsatisfied demand, prices being firm on late rates. Southland buyers were again active and local inquiry keen. Quotations:— Medium two-tooth ewes made 455; fourtooth Romney cross ewes, 47s 3d; three end four-shear, 37s dd to 41s; full-mouth, 82s 6d to 36s 9d; good conditioned full and failing-mouth, 30s to 325; average fullmouth ewes, 24s to 26fc 9d; broken-mouth ewes, 20s to 22s Gd; culls, 13s. A line of 450 good-conditioned four, six, and eight-tooth wethers realised 39s 3d; medium two and four-tooth, 32s 6d to 36s 9d; small, 30s. Store Lambs. —Extra good Romney cross ewe lambs, 41s to 43s 3d; good, 35s 6d to 38s 6d; medium, 32s to 345; small, 275; best wether lambs made from 30s 7d to 31s; medium, 23s Gd to 2715. ■ The fat cattle yarding comprised 20 head, being medium to light-weight. Fat bullocks made £l3 10s to £,15 12s Gd; fat cows, £9 10s to £l2 15s; fat heifers, to £ll 15s. Tlie store cattle section drew a small entry. One-and-a-half-yeax-old steers made £8 10s to £9 ss; mixed m.s. calves, £5 7s Gd to £5 12s Gd. Dairy cows and heifers close to profit met a ready sale, young cows making up.ip £l9 10s and heifers to £lB.
