FURTHER INTERIM AID
DOLLARS FOR WESTERN EUROPE PRESIDENT TRUMAN’S APPEAL WASHINGTON, Mar. 11. President Truman to-day asked Congress for an additional 55.000,000 dollars to help tide Western Europe over until the European Recovery Programme is enacted. Congress voted 540,000,000 dollars temporary aid last autumn, including 18,000,000 dollars for China. It was expected then that this money would last until the Marshall Plan was passed, but in a letter to the House Speaker, President Truman said to-day: “The events which have taken place in Europe in recent weeks do not permit us with safety or prudence to risk a break in the supply flow at this moment. I therefore hope Congress will find it possible to make needed funds available before April 1.
