EXHIBITION MATCHES TOURING AUSTRALIANS P.A. AUCKLAND, Mar. 5. The New Zealand Women’s Singles champion, Miss E. G. Attwood, of Auckland, took a set from the No. 1 woman player of the Australian lawn tennis team when the first day of a two-day exhibition by the team was staged. Results of matches (Australian names first): —Miss M. Toomey v. Miss E. G. Attwood 5—6, 6—3; Miss P. Jones beat Miss Kerr (Otago) 6—2, 6 —2; O. W. Sidwell beat A. S. Burns (Auckland) 6—3, 6—2; F. A. Sedgman beat E. D. B. Lusk (Auckland) 6 —4, 6—4; Sidwell and G. E. Brown beat W. T. Pountney and P. Becroft (Auckland) 6—l, 7—5; J. Dart and Miss M. Bevis beat Pountney and Miss M. Beverley (Waikato) 6—4. In addition, the All-Australian women’s doubles were played, Miss Jones and Mrs S. B. Newcombe winning the first set from Misses Toomey and Bevis 6—4, and losing the second 2—6.
