CANTERBURY DECURES
MATCH AGAINST FIJIANS
HADLEE SCORES CENTURY P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, Mar. 5. Canterbury batted brightly on the first day of the match against the Fijians, and at the close of plßy the innings was declared at 421 for nine wickets. The day’s cricket was full of incident, and was as remarkable for the number, of chances the Fijians missed as for the quick scoring of the Canterbury batsmen. The visiting team had little luck, however, as on many occasions the ball fell just out of reach, and although most of the home batsmen gave attractive disnlays, the total was a little flattering. The best" innings was that of W. A. Hadlee, the Canterbury captain, who scored 102 in under two hours. A. R. Mac Gibbon scored 78 In 69 minutes. The Fijians’ bowling was mediocre, but the wicket was easy, and its pace reduced by a heavy shower after lunch. Scores:—
