Highweight Handicap They went away to a good line and Robert took up the running from Winning Cheer and Relampago with Irish Wit a couple of lengths away. There was no change in the order until the straight was reached where the field closed up. Peccadillo failed to move away and Double Dillon and Achievement led out from Arawa Lad, Phineas, and Black Orphan. Tayside was making up ground as they ran past the post the first -time. With five furlongs to run Double Dillon was shading Achievement with Arawa Lad third, ahead of Phineas and Black Orphan. Arawa Lad tangled about three furlongs from home and Double Dillon and Achievement led round the home bend from Phineas, with Black Orphan and Tayside coming through fast. Double Dillon was first into the straight but half-way down the running, Black Orphan and Tayside drew out and fought out a fine 'finish. Black Orphan getting there first, with Phineas third and Double Dillon fourth. Trial Handicap From a good start Winlowe was the first to show out from Count Deering, King's Victory and Flibbertigibbet. That was the order down the back. Bonnie Lancer moved up on the bend but Winlowe shaded King's Victory into the straight, and in the run to the judge easily held him off, with Bonnie Lancer third and Flibbertigibbet fourth. Centennial Cup Past the post for the first time Wild Cry and Sea Flower were together in the lead from Pride of Mossburn and Black Light, with Hort Royal at the rear. There was no alteration down the back, but four furlongs from home Pride of Mossburn and Black Light began to close on the leaders and with about two furlongs to run Pride of Mossburn, Wild Cry and Black Light were practically in line, with Sea Flower right behind them. Pride of Mossburn and Black Light drew clear halfway down the straight and Pride of Mossbui n won narrowly from Black Light, with Sea Flower finishing well on the outside for third, and Hart Royal fourth. John Colling Handicap

The Grate put up a good performance to win the John Colling Handicap as she was last out of the barrier and there furlongs from home was at least three lengths from the ethers who were racing in line. Faites Vos Jeux was first into the straight from Royal Lark and Haughty Lyric and The Grate was still about two lengths away. She put in a fine run in the straight, however, to win going away from Royal Lark with Faites Vos Jeux third. Kawarau Trot Double Dillon and Peccadillo began best and they were the two leaders throughout. They opened up a big gap running down the back from Mystery Dillon and Durban Castle with Oreti Jack next. Peccadaillo drew out a couple of lengths from Double Dillon across the bend, and Durban Castle followed these two into the straight. Pacing smoothly, Peccaddillo went on for an easy win from Double Dillon, who just beat Oreti Jack for second. Durban Castle was fourth. Lowburn Handicap Lady Melrose got out well and led round the top from Nor’-wester, Winning Cheer and Maria. The order down the back was the same, but with four furlongs to run. Lady Melrose appeared to suffer a check when -Nor’-wester ran up to her on the bend. Maria began to move up and Nor’-wester, Maria and Lady Melrose were almost in line turning for home but Nor’-wester lost ground on the rails and Lady Melrose drew away for a decisive win from Maria with Nor’wester third.
