PRIDE OF MOSSBURN

CROMWELL CENTENNIAL CUP BLACK LIGHT CHALLENGES STRONGLY Special Reporter CROMWELL, Mar. 5. The Cromwell Jockey Club’s two-day meeting was opened to-day in fine weather after heavy rain early in the morning, and there was a good attendance for an off day. Although some of the fields were small, the racing was interesting throughout. Five horses went to the post for the Centennial Cup, and Pride of Mossburn won from Black Light, with Sea Flower (bracketed with Black Light) in third place. It was a good finish, with necks between the placed horses.

The riders in the Centennial Cup Handicap wore black armbands out of respect to Mr C. Gomer, chief stipendiary steward, whose death occurred suddenly on Thursday. Although only four horses started in the John Collings Handicap, two dividends were paid as there was a late scratching. The track was in splendid order. The totalisator handled £5684 10s, compared with £7253 on the first day last year. Details:
