STAKE INCREASED
AUSTRALIAN JOCKEY CLUB DERBY N.Z.P.A.—Copyright SYDNEY, Feb. 28. The prize for the Australian Jockey Club Derby this year will be doubled, the A.J.C.' committee having decided to increase its allocation of added money from £SOOO to £IO,OOO. The Derby thus becomes the richest race in Australia. The Melbourne Cup and Doomben Cup also are worth £IO,OOO, but in each case the promoting club retains all payments made by tile owners. In the case of the Derby and all A.J.C. events, the added money is pooled with the nomination and acceptance fees and all other payments for disbursement among the the place-getters. The added money for the Epsom Handicap has been increased' by £IOOO to £4OOO, and the allocation for the Metropolitan has been raised from £SOOO to £6OOO. The sum of £IOOO has been added to the prize money for the St. Leger Stakes and the Sires’ Produce Stakes, making them worth £3OOO and £SOOO respectively.
