Withdrawals for the Invercargill meeting are due to-morrow. Withdrawals for the Cromwell meeting are due to-morrow. Sandpiper’s Win Sandpiper’s win in the chief race of the Kaikoura Trotting Clilb’s meeting was a fitting reward after some consistent form. She was a long way back early, but finished well. Worthy Jack and Golden Sheaf led early, with Gallant Thorpe, Shy Sonoma, Make Believe, Waroonga and Pony Express' handy at the end of a mile, where Sandpiper headed the others. Kinoma Girl and Gallant Ruth joined in a little further on. Kinoma Girl led to the straight, where Magnificent also moved up. There was a great battle over the final furlong. Kimona Girl tangled near the post and Sandpiper just beat her, with Gallant Ruth, Magnificent and Make Believe close up. Sandpiper had been second to Henry of Navarre and Proprietor on the two previous Saturdays at Addington. She is a six-year-old mare by Sandydale, owned and trained at Balclutha, and judged on recent form she may be on the way to much better class.
