NEW ZEALAND TENNIS TEAM AUSTRALIANS EXTENDED ?,A. WELLINGTON, Feb. 29. Though the only match New Zeaand won in the tennis test against Australia on the Mitchell Park courts, l,ower Hutt, was played on Friday, here is no doubt the home team put ip a much better performance on Satirday than on the first day. The (reater speed and severity of the Ausralians was still obvious, but in all he singles matches there were stages vhen the New Zealanders either (ained the upper hand or fully exended the ultimate victors. Particularly pleasing was the perormance of O. M. Bold, who took F. Sedgman, Australia, to three sets, lold’s success was largely due to his requent and successful net attacks, the ibsence of which had been a great veakness in his game in the past, ffiss M. Kerr also took one set off diss P. Jones and Miss E. Attwood ook one off Miss M. Toomey. Miss i. Potter put up another splendid, perormance against Miss M. Bevis, but ras not permitted to repeat the victory he scored over Miss Bevis at the in--itation tournament at Christchurch. In his two sets against Brown J. tobson showed he has probably imiroved more than any of his team nates in the period since the New Zealand championships, particularly as result of his contact with the visitng players. „ The New Zealand champion, R. dcKenzie, suffered a lightning defeat n his first set against W. Sidwell, winning no games and only five points n an eight and a-half minute contest le proved worthy of the Australian in he second set. however, winning the irst two games. The Doubles between Sidwell and x. Brown and McKenzie and Robson ras dropped in favour of an exhibition natch between the four Australians dcKenzie had a sore wrist and this nay have been troubling him in the Singles on Saturday. Australia won 11 matches, 22 sets and 46 games, to no matches. 3 sets and 6 games For both days the total was 2 matches. 45 sets and 293 games to ne match, 5 sets, and 143 games.
