CYCLING TITLES
FLOWERS BRILLIANT SOUTHLANDERS’ SUCCESS Southland contestants were to the fore at the Otago amateur cycling championships at the Caledonian Ground on Saturday, winning most of the main events. The sprint was a battle of tactics between K. McDonald (Invercargill) and A, L. Turner (Dunedin), the former winning the first and third races for the final. The Southland junior, W. Hoffman, proved too strong for his opponents, and won the Half-mile Junior Championship and the Five-mile Junior Paced Championship titles in impressive style. The honours in the principal race, the 10 Miles Paced Championship, went convincingly to the Otago veteran, C. J. Flowers, who completely mastered the field over the 37 rounds. Flowers lapped the field halfway through, and the issue thereafter was never in doubt. Results:— 500 Metres Sprint Championship.—First heat: C. S. Schmelz (Dunedin). Second heat: I. E.
