SENIOR CRICKET GAMES

The penultimate series of matches in the Otago Cricket Association’s senior competition, which were completed on Saturday in perfect playing conditions, provided some of the most interesting finishes of the season, and the result of the games was to place High School Old Boys in an unassailable position for the championship. Old Boys gained an outright win against University, and their nearest attendants, Grange, made a bold attempt to keep the competition alive'by striving hard for an outright win against Kaikorai after facing a deficit on the first innings. Grange, set the task of making 153 in 55 minutes, nearly succeeded, losing seven wickets for 144 when stumps were drawn, Kaikorai thus gaining a win on the first innings. Carisbrook had to be content with a five-point win against Dunedin, although it made a sporting attempt to force an outright victory. Albion-Y.M.C.A. completely demoralised North-East Valley, the match, which finished at 3 o’clock, resulting in a win for Albion-Y.M.C.A. by -an innings and 62 runs.

Among the outstanding bowling performances, the slow bowlers stood out, L. D. Smith capturing five for 25 and R. H. Robinson four for 22 for Albion-Y.M.C.A. against North-East Valley, while L. J. Groves, who has been in great form this season, secured six for 51 for Old Boys against University. A. R. Knight obtained the remarkable figures of four for 10 for Carisbrook against Dunedin and T. A. Freeman six for 58 for Grange against Kaikorai. Individual scores were lower than they have been of late, although J. O’Sullivan of Dunedin carried his previous week’s score of 39 to 104, the next best being G. McGregor’s 49 for Kaikorai and scores of 47 and 41 by A. Moir and C. J. Elmes respectively fo~ Grange.

The championship points are:— Old Boys 50 Grange 37 Carisbrook • .. 31 University 21 Kaikorai .. 21 Albion-Y.M.C.A 18 North-East Valley .. .. 13 Dunedin 6
