SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED’
P A WELLINGTON, Feb. 29. y The Minister in Charge of Scientific; and Industrial Research, Mr T. H.. McCombs, announced on Saturday that, on the recommendation of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Researchthe six national research scholarships available for 1948 would be awarded , to the following:—lC. J. Mitchell, B.Ag.. Sc. (Massey Agricultural College): D.-, J Ross, M.Sc. (Victoria University College) • L C. Hobbis, M.Sc. (Auckland.. University College); A. Iggo, M.Ag. Sc.' (Canterbury Agricultural College): J. V Robinson, B.Sc. (Canterbury University College); and R. Pilgrim, M.Sc. (Canterbury University College). Mr McCombs said the national research scholarships were awarded to enable graduates of the University of New Zealand to undertake further studies to equip themselves better for future research work in New Zealand., It was also desired that as far as pos- • sible national research scholarships; should be held in New Zealand Uni-; versity colleges in preference to overseas universities, although it was recognised that that was not possible in all cases. ~ , . The scholarships are tenable for two; vears and are of the annual value 0f£250. together with further grants the payment of fees and the purchase' of books or apparatus up to £SO. ;
