THREAT OF ACTION
“ATTEMPT TO CLOUD ISSUE” CARPENTERS’ JUST CLAIM P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 27. , “ I have no wish to continue a newspaper controversy-with the Prime Minister, which started as a result of the Minister of Labour’s public statement that the Government proposed to take action against those persons who had instigated a go-slow policy in the building trade,” said Mr F. L. Langley, president of the New Zealand Cai> penters’ Union, commenting on Mr Fraser’s\statement published to-day. ‘‘l feel there is a deliberate attempt to cloud the real issue—a just claim by the carpenters and joiners to restore their wages to the rates of other building trade workers,” said Mr Langley. Mr J. R. Smith, president of the Canterbury Master - Builders’ Association, said his executive had decided not to discuss in the meantime the Wellington association's proposal to close down all jobs. The Dominion executive would meet early next month and would discuss the position.
