PACIFIC LINERS
MARIPOSA AND MONTEREY p.A. AUCKLAND, Feb. 27. Plans for the future of the former Pacific liners Mariposa and Monterey will be investigated by Mr Neil S. Laidlaw, managing agent for the Matson Line in the South . Pacific, who was a through passenger on the Marine Phoenix. Mr Laidlaw said he would spend about six weeks in the United States to find out how soon if at all the two vessels would be ready for their regular runs to Auckland and Sydney. The opening of outside bids for the reconstruction of the liners was planned for February 28, said Mr Laidlaw. It followed the suspension of their rebuilding in the Matson Company’s own yards because of the high cost of work done until last. Jauly.
