LADY DILL
VISIT TO CHILDREN'S HOME l SOLE OFFICIAL FUNCTION Her only official function during her stay in Otago was performed yesterday afternoon by Lady Dill, widow of Field-marshal Sir John Dill, when she Visited the Lawrence Presbyterian Children’s Home. Lady Dill is touring New Zealand as a guest of the Government on behalf of the British Red Cross, in which organisation she holds the rank of lieutenant-colonel. Lady Dill, who was in Red Cross uniform, was welcomed by the Mayor of Lawrence, Mr W. J. Suters, and three representatives of the Presbyterian Social Service ‘Association, Mr S. B. Cameron and the Revs. R, T. Dodds and A. M. Eiliffe. Mr Cameron spoke of the work of Lady Dill during the war, when, among her many activities, she was hostess to a number of New Zealand servicemen, notably convalescing ex-prisoners of war. He also paid a tribute to the notable service of Sir John Dill. Lady Dill was escorted through the home by the mat.-on, Miss A. G. Mair. and expressed herself delighted with the high standard it set. She met and shook hands with each child before being entertained at afternoon tea. Mr Dodds proposed a vote of thanks to Lady Dill for her interest in the home, her visit and her kindness to the children. During her stay in Lawrence Lady Dill is the guest of Mr and Mrs Robin McKinlay, the former having been one of the many New Zealanders whom she met in England during the war. She has expressed regret that her itinerary does not include Dunedin, and yesterday inquired after a number of residents of the city whom she had met.
