PARALYSIS VICTIM

CLAIM AGAINST SHIPPING COMPANY HEAVY DAMAGES AWARDED Rec. 9 p.m. NEW YORK, Feb. 10. Sister Elizabeth Kenny was an expert witness in a case in which a jury to-day awarded an infantile paralysis victim, a 27-year-old former ship’s engineer, Robert McAllister, 100,000 dollars damages against the Cosmopolitan Shipping Company. McAllister, who claimed 275,000 dollars, said he contracted the disease in 1945 after the freighter, Edward B. Haines, took on board a group of Chinese without physical examination. McAllister claimed that no steps were taken to prevent contagion and as a result of not receiving proper treatment he lost the use of both legs.

Sister Kenny said in evidence that the prompt use of her method of treating infantile paralysis would result in a correction of the possible crippling effects.
