HARBOUR BOARDS
WORKER REPRESENTATION MINISTERIAL FORECAST P.A. WANGANUI, Jan. 23. A forecast of worker representation on harbour boards, was given by the Minister of Marine, Mr Hackett, who attended a special meeting of the Wanganui Harbour Board. He said that there might be a tendency among boards to ignore advice given by the trade unions. “I would say this,” stated the Minister, “ there are many trade union members in harbour board employees' industrial union works, and the Waterside Workers’ Union, who have more interest in the future of their particular harbour than some of the members of the harbour boards themselves, because their future depends on the future of the port.” So seriously did the Government consider this advice, the Minister added, that it was at present considering worker representation on harbour boards.
