FIVE WICKETS TO G. TOBIN Runs came slowly on a rather dead wicket when Kaikorai opened against Dunedin at Tonga Park. G. Tobin’s slow breaking deliveries kept the batsmen wary, and he finished with a total of five wickets. K. Burke was the most aggressive of the opening batsmen. He hit three 6’s and four 4’s in making 54. The rate of scoring quickened when C. Welham partnered A. N. Lawson. The pair added 73 runs for the eighth wicket. Welham made 38 and Lawson’s free effort for 66 included a six and eight 4’s. Kaikorai made 244 runs. After 10 minutes of play, Dunedin had scored five without loss. FIJIAN CRICKET TEAM TOUR OF NEW ZEALAND CRITICISM OF SELECTION P.A. AUCKLAND, Jan. 11. Five Europeans and nine Fijians have been selected for the Fijian cricket team to tour New Zealand in February and March, according to advice received in Auckland to-day. The players selected are the most experienced available, and some criticism has been made in Suva that more young players should have been included in the side. The team includes P. T. Raddock, P. A. Snow, H. J. Apted, M. J. Fenn, A. Wendt, G. K. Cakobau, Isoa Lagavatu, Petero Kubu, Viliame Mataika, Kaminieli Aria, Aisea Turuva, Mosese Bogisa, Semi Revouvou, Tevita Vakalomomo. Mr J. W. Gosling will manage the team. It Is likely that E. Cakobau, who Is at present at Oxford University, will be included in the side if he arrives from England in time.
