Jottings Cricket Field is improving, and should gallop out of trial company before long. Botany was lame after running in the President’s Handicap at Oamaru. Repudiate appeared to be unlucky not to finish in a place at Oamaru yesteiday. Bad at Barrier Detain was mulish at the barrier at Oamaru yesterday, and practically ran his rcce before the field was sent away. Racing Consistently Sumra has been racing consistently, and may win a race at any time now. A Longer Journey Lovemorn should be worth following when she 1 is started in a seven-furlong race. Finished Strongly Grill put up a fine performance to win at Oamaru, as he was running last with Pandemonium for most of the journey. He galloped over everything in the run home, and won going away. Nigger Lad Nigger Lad, a winner at Invercargill yesterday, is a half-brother to Salmon Spear and Spanish Lad, and, like most members of the family, should be capable of winning over a middle distance. Promising Hurdler Gunther’s success in the Avenal Hurdles at Invercargill yesterday marked his fourth successive win. He won a double at the Dunedin meeting very impressively, a rise of 101 b on the second day making no difference. Gunther, who is by Siegfried from Royal Emblem, had already shown considerable prom’se over hurdles prior to his win yesterday, and he looks certain to nlay a prominent part in jumping events' for the Hazlett stable.
