Mr H. W. Whyte, assistant general manager of the National Bank of New Zealand, arrived during the week-end for a short visit to Dunedin. Alan Loveday, formerly of Palmerston North, has achieved the high honour this year of being named the “ most distinguished student ” at the Royal Academy of Music, London. At the prize-giving last month Alan Loveday received from Princess Elizabeth, who presided, the Tagor gold medal for gaining the distinction. His teacher is Albert Sammons, who, ever since Alan Loveday arrived in England 10 years ago, has had the greatest faith in his future as a violinist.
