STANDARD OF PRODUCE

NEED FOR MAINTENANCE P.A. PALMERSTON N., Nov. 9. A sincere hope that New Zealand farmers, in their endeavours to meet the demands of a food-hungry world, would do nothing that might detract from the high reputation of Dominion produce held overseas, was expressed by the Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg, who, as patron of theManawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association, opened the metropolitan spring show here on Saturday.

At the present time, he said, New Zealand could not tolerate bad farming or the wrong use of land. Having visited the larger cities and industrial activities, Sir Bernard indicated that he and Lady Freyberg now intended visiting the agricultural shows and meeting the members of the farming community who meant so much to New Zealand.
