CENTENNIAL YEAR

Preliminary Work Progressing Well REPORTS FROM COMMITTEES With less than four months to go before the opening celebrations of Otago’s centennial year, the indications point more clearly than ever to the fact that the traditions of the province for hospitality and entertainment will be worthily upheld. A large team of citizens is working with energy and enthusiasm towards one goal—the organisation of a programme of events which will interest and entertain the people of the province and those who will be taking part in the diverse activities of the festive year. Already the programme for the first three months is well filled and in the Otago Centennial Association’s tentative schedule of major functions for that period over 100 events are listed. These include over 20 important sporting events and a large number of conferences of Dominion organisations. In an attempt to obtain a clear picture of the way in which plans for the centennial are developing the Daily Times approached the conveners of a number of committees which are handling various aspects of the arrangements. Without exception the reports were favourable and optimistic—a good omen for the ultimate success of the extensive programme.
