PLEA FOR LENIENCY
SENTENCE ON SCIENTIST atomic secrets divulged Rec. 8 p.m. LONDON, Sept. 4. The Association of Scientific Workers renewed its plea for a reduction of the sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment passed on May 1, 1946, on Dr Alan Nunn May for communicating information on atomic research contrary to the Official Secrets Act The association, in a letter to the Secretary of State for Home Affairs, Mr Chuter Ede, states that although Mr Chuter Ede feels unable to reduce the sentence the association still feels that it-is “Harsh and excessive and quite out of proportion to the seriousness of the offence and we completely repudiate the suggestion that Nunn May's action was motivated by gain.
