SCOTTISH SOCIETIES’ COUNCIL LINKS WITH EDINBURGH “We will naturally be pleased to receive the Fiery Cross in Dunedin and if they care to make our city its home we will be more thrilled than ever,” said the president of the Otago Council of Scottish Societies, Mr G. Borwick, last night when he was told the news that the cross would most likely he brought to Dunedin in • th£ near future. Mr Borwick mentioned the links that Dunedin had with Edinburgh. “The Edinburgh of the South” had a close connection with the Lord Provost of Edinburgh and Dunedin had contributed a large sum of money to furnish a room in one of Edinburgh’s buildings. Then there was Dunedin’s generous response to Viscount Montgomery’s appeal for funds for boys’ clubs in Scotland. “ Perhaps Wellington as the capital city, will want the cross, however,” remarked Mr Borwick. He added that the Otago council would receive the cross in fitting style and all the pipe bands would be out.
